HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Connecticut Democrats issued a warning Monday about former president Donald Trump's pick for running mate.
“JD Vance is the embodiment of the new MAGA GOP, and a mirror for Donald Trump," reads a statement from Nancy DiNardo, a chair for the state's Democrat party. "He supports a national abortion ban, he thinks Project 2025 is 'full of good ideas,' and he wouldn’t have certified the 2020 election."
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying, “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”
The 39-year-old Vance is a junior Republican senator from Ohio. He's expected to speak at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday.
“American voters know better," DiNardo wrote. "They will choose the ticket that preserves a woman’s s access to abortion, promotes unity, creates opportunity and lowers cost for everyone, and that is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.“
